Ladder Drills

When your training becomes monotonous, you are more likely to lose interest and even stop working out altogether. It is ideal to switch up your workouts each day by incorporating various forms of exercise. Whether it be aerobic exercises, anaerobic exercises, stretching, walking, or cardio, each of them provides specific benefits that contribute to your overall health.


Ladder drills are highly used in the athletic environment to help athletes improve speed and agility skills. They also serve to improve reaction time, and mimic change in direction scenarios that athletes likely face during competition.

Benefits of performing ladder drills

· Helps improve foot work

· Assists in improvement of reaction time

· Helps navigate change of direction without losing speed

· Works on acceleration and stopping

· Incorporates body control and being aware of your surroundings


Agility ladders are relatively inexpensive, lightweight, portable, and user friendly. There are different type of exercises that you can perform with ladders which range from shuffles, sprints, and directional movements.


Example warm-up workout: Perform each exercise 4x

· Inside, outside, quick feet into a sprint

· Sideways inside, outside toe taps into a sprint

· Icky shuffle into a sprint
